FAQ section
Why are standard tissue products bad for the environment?
Tissue products should be simple. Unfortunately, most aren’t. Standard toilet rolls are packed with harsh chemicals like bleach, formaldehyde, BPA, and PFAS (the "forever chemicals" you don’t want anywhere near your skin).
They also come at a huge environmental cost; over 27,000 trees are cut down every single day to make toilet roll. That’s about 9 million a year. On top of that, drying tissue pulp requires a lot of heat, most of which comes from fossil fuels. The result is a massive climate footprint for something that's used once before being thrown or flushed away.
Why is BamBums more sustainable?
Our toilet rolls are free from bleach, harsh chemicals, and plastic.
Most toilet rolls rely on fossil fuels for manufacturing, and bleach for whiteness. Some even come individually wrapped (which looks nice but adds a lot of unnecessary bleach, dyes, and packaging). We do things differently:
- Powered by nature – Our factory runs on renewable energy: biomass, solar, wind, and hydro.
- Lower carbon footprint – Our CO2e emissions are significantly lower than other eco alternatives.
- Clean production – The water used in our factory can go straight back into the river with no harm done.
- Certified PFAS-free & BPA-free – Because no one wants forever chemicals in their bathroom.
- Good jobs, fair pay – Our factory is a B Corp in its own right, with good working conditions and a living wage for everyone who makes our products.
Does using bamboo mean less for pandas?
Nope! We would never take food from pandas' plates; the bamboo we use isn’t the type they eat.
Bamboo is actually brilliant for biodiversity. Unlike farmed trees, bamboo grows in huge natural forests and can be harvested without replanting; making it a great renewable choice compared with traditional farmed timber.
We also offer recycled toilet paper made from waste cardboard boxes and kraft paper sourced near our factory.
